Reports to:                         Senior Buyer

 

SUMMARY:

Purchase equipment and/or services to support shipbuilding operations and satisfy customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process Requisitions, Issue Request for Quotes; develop bid tabs, conduct negotiations and issue purchase orders.

  • Use SAP to support purchasing process.

  • Develop successful negotiation strategies for purchase of equipment and services for ship production and plant operations.

  • Work closely with Production and Engineering (where necessary) to insure that materials or services being ordered and delivered will fulfill all requirements.

  • Coordinate and manage floor stock supplies

  • Manage tool crib supplies

  • Orders, receives, inventories, issues and reconciles tool crib supplies

  • Analyze consumption and improve cost and performance by seeking better replacement products

  • Manage welding and gas supplies- sets up all orders for weldingand gas supplies

  • Set up all blanket orders and control them quarterly.

  • Complete all assignments as required

  • Other duties may be added as required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None required.

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Willingness to take on new tasks and continue to learn

  • Interest in negotiating

  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or BA college degree preferred

  • Min. 2 years of experience in Purchasing and/or Material handling

    COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficient in Microsoft software applications such as Word and Excel

  • Familiar with Access and Power Point

  • Proficient in SAP

  • Not required

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Normal office duties with some travel required on occasion. Regular office work and Negotiation sessions can extend beyond normal 8-hour day.
