We are excited to welcome the next selection of applicants to apply to join Cohort 15 as they embark on the journey of becoming multi-skilled trade workers and shipbuilders. Due to a positively overwhelming spring recruitment cycle, there are only a limited number of spots open for the Summer 2024 Apprenticeship! We highly encourage interested candidates to apply early, attend the information session and prepare for testing to secure your exam spot! Candidates who successfully complete the application process and pass the Philly Shipyard Mechanical Aptitude Test will be offered a spot in either the summer or fall 2024 cohort.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Machine Operator Apprentice Program Overview

The Machine Operator Apprenticeship program is a one-track opportunity designed for a single concentration to one skilled trade, machine operation, at Philly Shipyard. While this specialized track follows many of the existing Philly Shipyard Apprenticeship program guidelines, it particularly appeals to potential apprentices with a desire to become multi-skilled machine operators at the Shipyard.

This program allows apprentices to focus on operating the various machines used in the shipyard. Machine Operator Apprentices will work within and support production teams for the first 12 weeks of training learning and assisting with essential shipyard activities. Following their immersion in the production environment, machine operator apprentices will report to their assigned machines for hands-on training as opposed to technical classroom training in the Training Academy.

• Must submit a copy of a HS Diploma or GED equivalent
• Must take the Philly Shipyard Mechanical Aptitude Test (Invitation Only)
• A $60 Money Order is required to sit for the Mechanical Aptitude Test (Instructions will be included with the invitation)

2024 Recruitment Windows

As an apprentice, you’re a full-time employee from day one, getting paid to learn trade skills and earning college credits without incurring any student debt. For the first 12 weeks, the class will work on-site in Production departments for immediate immersion into the shipyard’s working environment and activities. At the end of 12 weeks, apprentices will report to the Training Academy to begin classroom training and hands-on lessons to obtain their certifications.

Upon completion at the Training Academy, apprentices re-join production to begin work on ship construction.
